I often spend minutes just staring out of the bedroom window. More often than not I see at least one fox. For a while a rather mangey fox with a sad tail hung about the garden but recently our resident fox is a much healthier looking one and will probably come the spring father a lot of cubs. Currently the garden is full of squirrels that scurry around trying to hide food or dig up other creature's hidden food. I still haven't planted any bulbs yet so they may be waiting for me to get round to it. Yesterday I watched a squirrel sitting on the wall trying to decide which way to jump. Behind it I could see a really big ginger cat on the hunt. It took the squirrel a second or two to notice it and then it took off like a bullet with the cat in hot pursuit.
This morning I watched parakeets flying really close to the window. The novelty of seeing bright green parakeets wore off long ago. Now they just annoy me as they are very loud and drown out the sounds of other birds. The parakeets disappeared into the tree and I watched two robins hopping about and then a small brightly coloured bird suddenly flew across the grass and I knew by the way it moved that it was a greater spotted woodpecker. I love seeing them.
Later in the day I went out to the front of the house to put something in the bin and a small brown creature was exiting our garden underneath the gate. I thought it was a bird but it stayed at ground level and shot across the pavement and disappeared under a car. I have no idea what it was and the man who was walking pass didn't know either. The creature ran right in front of him. I don't think he was much of a naturalist because he said very loudly:
"What the fuck was that? Was it a big mouse or a cat?"
I suspect it was a small rat.
I had my covid and flu jab today and both my arms are really aching. I also made an appointment for a blood test and a doctor's appointment. I should have also made a dental appointment but I'll do that tomorrow. I felt very pleased with myself for sorting all of this out.
