I think winter has finally arrived. It was dark when I woke up and dark when I finished work.
I had quite a busy day as in the morning I was doing a little consultancy work. I have to say it was much easier doing it online because it would have taken me at least an hour and a half to get there. Usually I don't much enjoy doing these but today I found it quite interesting and my fellow panel members less irritating than usual.
At six o'clock Traybake and I walked to Waitrose. The quickest route there passes an industrial area on a creek and it is a little intimidating in the dark but the only dodgy character we saw out and about was a young fox with a very bushy tail. In the distance we could see a large Christmas tree but couldn't work out where it was. After we had finished shopping we walked along the Thames Path. The river was like glass reflecting the lights of the buildings on the north bank. Traybake decided it looked just like Denmark. We turned the corner and suddenly the Christmas tree was right in front of us, formed from lights strung up on the rigging on the Cutty Sark.
We discovered today that almost all of England has been designated as high risk so although we will no longer be in lockdown next week we will still be very restricted. From next week shops will be open again in time for people to do Christmas shopping. I can't help thinking about all those families at Christmas exchanging gifts and the virus all at the same time.
It is almost the end of November and I realise I haven't once quoted No Sun No Moon by Thomas Hood
No warmth, no cheerfulness, no healthful ease,
No comfortable feel in any member -
No shade, no shine, no butterflies, no bees,
No fruits, no flowers, no leaves, no birds, -
November!
This makes me think of a little November poem from one of my favourite Danish poets, Henrik Nordbrandt. The first line says "the year has sixteen months"
Året har 16 måneder: November, december, januar, februar, marts, april, maj, juni, juli, august, september, oktober, november, november, november, november.

Pernille very good although I think there is little miscounting as at least two Februaries have been omitted!
