Gladness and joy be the flowers
Steeped in the sunshine of friendship
And scenting all life's happy hours

Be gay as a garden. My garden is not very gay at the moment although the extreme cold weather has meant that all the crocuses (crocci) have come out at the same time. There are many more than last year so perhaps the squirrels have been frightened away this winter. The foxes are still around. I could hear them yowling last night and I narrowly avoided treading in the fox poo which was left in the middle of the garden path yesterday morning.
This birthday card dates from the 1940s which makes it at least 45 years older than the GYS. Soon I will have to change her name. In the time that I have been writing this blog she has gone from being a Gap Year Student to an undergraduate and next Autumn she starts her masters in London. She found out yesterday that she had been accepted onto the course she really wanted to get on to. Yesterday was also her birthday so she couldn't have been more pleased and nor could we. There is much gladness and joy around.
