45 - 46 Two White T-Shirts
Essential items of clothing which need replacing every year. I don't feel guilty about these.
43-44 Two Tops From Uniqlo
I blame That's Not My Age and Belgian Waffle for reminding me about what good stuff you can get in Uniqlo.
41-42 Two Kilner Jars

40 - Book
Old, slightly damaged book.

34-37 Four Books
I went a bit mad in the LRB bookshop.
33 - Small basket
This was very expensive but I believe it is a work of art. I used the money I earned doing the count. At least I will have one positive thing as a result of the election.
32 5 x Postcards
I couldn't resist buying 5 postcards at the Ravilious exhibition - counting this as one item.
28 - 31
Four novels. I went a bit mad in Waterstones. I will have to donate some books to the telephone library this week.
25 - 27
Stuff from walkthewalk - t-shirt, hat and bra. All a bit tacky but for a good cause.
23-24 Two Books
Another copy of Time Out Book of Walks - my fourth copy so far? I also bought a book about walking which was a mistake as it involves very little reading but lots of fey nonsense.
22. Packet of AAA batteries
I didn't need to buy so many but they only came in packets of 12 and my television remote controller had stopped working and I didn't want to be restricted to watching only BBC2.
21. A Hand Brush
I know I shouldn't have but I did.
20. A pair of shoes
I also bought a pair of really expensive shoes in M&S. Pale blue loafers which are either a brilliant buy or a terrible mistake. I haven't decided yet which it is.

I have to go to a work event next week which involves a bit of dressing up so I had to buy some dressing up shoes. I bought a mega cheap pair from M&S. I resent having to do this.

Given free at the concert at the Barbican.
16 Denim Skirt
I did want to buy a denim but I hadn't planned to buy a mid calf tight one. Oh well.

I didn't really need these but I was in M&S and I tried them on and they were very flattering and well, what can I say?
14 Dress
I feel quite guilty about this and must dispose of 3 items of clothing to make up for it. Another very plain dress but, but it was so cheap and will be very good for work.

Rock and roll! I went mad in Lakeland.

10 - A packet of 100 tea lights
This is one item. I don't care what you say.
7 - 9 Three small containers.
What can I say? I went to Ikea and everyone knows if you try to leave without buying something they send you back to go round again.
2 - 6. Kenwood Chef
I have wanted one of these for at least 20 years. I bought a second hand one which died after a few weeks. This was in a sale and was less than half price. I now have the problem of getting rid of the second hand one. I am counting this as five objects; bowl, mixer and attachments; spatula; spanner; recipe book; and blender.
1. Pot of Chrysanthemums
I thought these were better value than a bunch of flowers. They cost £3.50.
Congratulations! The GYS having quite an effect on your Technological Solutions spending though, what with the tv et al, you might want to watch that....

Macs are glorified Fisher-Price activity centres for adults; computers for scaredy cats too nervous to learn how proper computers work; computers for people who earnestly believe in feng shui.
Err, aside from making me look at something related to the Grauniad, *then* it was that Brooker eejit. So I pulled one quote. The one above.
First. Wintel people have *no clue* how computers work. Sure, they can install bloated spyware and over-blown apps, with frills that no one needs.
Now. OS-X is built on BSD, which is a solid *nix operating system. If I were going for a dist personally, I would use debian, and nothing more than blackbox for a wm, but as we need something more fancy for the children, we have a Mac. I would never have x86 hardware, and the operating system from Seattle with it. (Natch, the new Macs aren't PPC anymore, but I have one, although I do use the x86 one with work.)
That article epitomises the Guardian. Blinkered, oh-so-holier-than-thou, oh-so-better-than-everyone-else, intellectually inept, wrong, corrupt and *snip* *breathe*

Rolpol you are right - she is an influence and I can't decide whether it's a good one or a bad one...bad when it comes to watching television but good in that I am now really hip and down with the young people.
Mr Bolan you realise that I didn't understand a word of that...apart from the rant at the end about the Guardian. Why are you so threatened by a newspaper?
Posted by: Ganching | February 05, 2007 at 10:08 PM
Despite it being in the Guardian, there's more than a grain of truth to it...
In a slightly less evangelical tone, it's interesting to see how quickly that one article has been linked to, and by how many people. It's spread much faster than nearly any other opinion piece I've seen.
(And clearly the right choice was made. Down with Apples and all their glowing smugness.)

I've recently had my first experience with a Mac whilst working for the Young Property Tycoon. I dinnae like it.

In the latest PC Magazine, they say that if you're buying a Windows machine right now to make sure you get the "free Vista upgrade" coupon if you get one with Windows XP installed.
Also, according to PC Magazine, the new Vista makes the computer look like a Mac, so you're good either way, innit?

Yer man Brooker was in my Introduction to Film Studies class at UEA; he once did a class paper on gangster movies while sporting a fake scar and talked almost exclusively about some silly comic called The Dark Knight Returns instead of discussing the films he was supposed to be telling us about. (For my part, when giving a paper on My Darling Clementine, I simply laid on the Norn Iren accent with a trowel and spoke as quickly as possible - nobody understood a word I said.)
Posted by: brian | February 06, 2007 at 02:37 AM
I was afraid this would happen.
Posted by: Sandra | February 06, 2007 at 03:09 AM
Ms. B: Actually, I hate the Independant (sic) more. I amn't threatened by the newspaper, more I feel sorry for those who listen to the insidious viewpoints they try to foist on those who, to be honest, are susceptible to such views. Not that I even really feel sorry for them, more, well, I stop now.
Brian: TDKR is a fine piece of graphic literature. Although the sequel isn't quite as good (Mr Miller reportedly wrote it after he needed a new apartment, told DC he would write it for a million. And they gave him the cash.)

There's a small corner of heaven reserved for mac-users. It looks a bit like an Ian Schrager boutique hotel and you get given a freshly laundered black polo neck every day.
Posted by: David | February 06, 2007 at 04:53 PM
So... I've always prefered Macs and have two at home, but I use PC's all the time at work. Macs are how I want things to be (so that's beautiful, slick, overdesigned, impractical - I mean gloss white for heaven's sake?) but PC's are how things are - annoying, ugly, but they get the job done after a fashion... so then I run Windows on my MacBook (which is Intel like most PC's). Is it any wonder I'm confused?
And those 'I'm a Mac' ads make me wonder if Apple have just shot themselves in the foot, they are so smug, crass, and provably wrong... and I'm meant to be a Mac lover.
Bet you wish you'd never started this!
Posted by: emmdee | February 06, 2007 at 10:53 PM
Oh maybe I should have got a Mac after all - I'd like a freshly black polo neck every day but only if it was cashmere.
