Sometimes you just have to give in and allow yourself to be a tourist at least that's what I'm telling myself.
We are staying at Fisherman's Wharf which is probably the most tacky part of SF but it is also where most of the hotels are so lots of people end up staying here who would rather be in more hip districts. My hotel room is almost as big as my entire flat so I'm not complaining.
I have attempted to do a couple of hipsterish type things however this has involved me getting lost and being a bit spooked by the homeless people who are all over the place. I know this is irrational and the people on the streets have zero interest in me.
I live in London and I almost never feel nervous when I'm out by myself. I often wonder how people who make the trip to Dalston feel as they walk around the mean streets of east London. There are a lot of young people with American accents in Hackney. I do admire them but mainly for having the gumption to find their way on public transport to Chatsworth Road.
So touristy things I have done in SF:
Taken photographs of the sealions
Rode on a cable car
Climbed up to Coit Tower
Had french toast for breakfast at Pier 39
Sometimes I don't mind being a tourist at all.
