I have always loved this photograph which was taken by the Surly Niece's mother one summer day when her cousins had come to visit. You can see that they are modelling typical Irish summer wear, Such a long time ago.
I have spent the most inactive day possible and didn't get out of bed until around 8 this evening. I haven't been this unwell for ages or at least not since the weeks after my mother died. During that bout of illness I had a cold which turned into sinusitis and thyroiditis. I didn't even know the latter existed until the consultant told me about. I am planning not to have any lingering after effects from this bout of the cold.
When I was a young thing I used to take the odd day off work when there was nothing wrong with me. Once I called in sick and went on a pre-planned visit to Greenwich which seemed to be so far away as to be almost outside London. The idea of taking time off when you are not sick seems such a strange concept now. As soon as I had a job where my absence affected anyone else I stopped abusing the systems and used to be quite smug about my sickness record.
I have survived today on a diet of digestive biscuits, Heinz tomato soup and cough syrup.
Traybake has said he will come and see me tomorrow but only if he can find a mask to wear.

Love the photo and the "typical' Irish summer wear! Sympathy on the misery of being sick....
