I have been spending far too much time at work recently.
Here in the public sector there are less and less people doing more and more and it makes for long days and short tempers.
I am trying very, very hard not to be grumpy.
I may have to work a lot but I do get a good deal of annual leave which I hope to use up on a mixture of holidays, weekends away and useful home improving projects.
Just before Christmas I got a sum of money. Not enough to do anything really significant with but enough, for example, to buy a new washing machine and go on a biggish holiday. In the past when I've got money, other than money I've earned, (something which has happened very, very infrequently) I've always been ultra sensible with it...saving accounts, ISAs, putting money towards a deposit yadda, yadda, yadda.
This time I plan to waste it. In the course of this year I'm going to indulge myself. Quite how I'm not sure yet. I do intend to have some weekends away, I might buy a Kenwood mixer, a bicycle, an Avron course, a painting. Who knows. Watch this space.

I like the sound of that.

I do too (like the sound of that) -- and, even though you did not ask for suggestions, I have one: Kindle. From the photo you posted recently it appears that you already have nice-looking bookshelves (so this whole "books furnish a room" thing is taken care of), so now it's time to indulge -- you'll never go back. (I swear to God, I had a trade-paperback copy of David Lodge's latest on my lap recently, and it just seemed ... cumbersome? Retro? Waay too heavy, at any rate.)
And I don't really understand the attraction of Kenwood mixers, or am I confusing this with a KitchenAid? At any rate, I like food processors because they chop (garlic, onion, carrot, celery, potatoes -- ratatatat, soup's done) as well as mix.
At any rate, enjoy!

Annette thanks for the suggestions. I am still holding out against the Kindle although see more and more people with them.
My mum had a Kenwood food mixer which she had since the 1970s - it lasted at least 30 years. I'm after something like.
